Senior Distributed Systems Engineer

A global technology environment is looking for a senior engineer to strengthen the infrastructure that enables large scale backend systems to communicate reliably across regions and services. The assignment focuses on distributed service platforms, traffic control, service identity and the operational tooling required to run these systems safely at significant scale.You will work within a highly technical infrastructure team alongside engineers responsible for cloud platforms, security and other core technology services. The role combines hands on software development with architectural decision making, platform improvements and carefully managed changes across a large production environment.

• Design and develop backend components responsible for service discovery, endpoint management and communication between distributed applications.
• Improve traffic distribution across regions and infrastructure zones, including intelligent routing and failover mechanisms.
• Develop and maintain control plane functionality that allows backend services to receive and respond to changes in their available endpoints and routing configuration.
• Strengthen monitoring, diagnostics and operational tooling for infrastructure with high availability requirements.
• Plan and deliver large scale platform changes with appropriate testing, validation, rollback strategies and operational safeguards.
• Work closely with application teams to make shared infrastructure capabilities easier and safer to adopt.
• Investigate complex production issues involving distributed services, network behaviour, performance and changing system state.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, technical design reviews and long term platform strategy.
• Support improvements to service authentication, workload identity and encrypted service communication.
• Collaborate with engineers across infrastructure, security and other technical domains in a distributed working environment.

• Five or more years of professional experience in backend engineering, platform engineering or distributed systems.
• Strong Java development experience with a track record of operating production software at scale.
• Solid understanding of distributed system concepts including service discovery, load distribution, fault tolerance and regional availability.
• Professional experience with Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes, preferably including Google Kubernetes Engine.
• Experience developing or operating production systems where monitoring, incident response and operational reliability are critical.
• Good knowledge of gRPC and Kubernetes based application environments.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, particularly when working with complex distributed behaviour and high volumes of service communication.
• Experience introducing infrastructure changes across multiple services or engineering teams while maintaining production stability.
• Understanding of modern service authentication, mutual TLS or workload identity is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with remote engineering teams and technical stakeholders.
