Connected Technology Solution Architect

A European enterprise is bringing in a senior technology specialist to help shape the technical foundation for a growing connected technology landscape. The assignment covers the architecture of distributed systems where connected equipment, local computing capabilities, enterprise applications and cloud services need to operate as one reliable environment.You will work between technology strategy and implementation, helping technical teams make decisions around platform design, connectivity, data movement, security and operational resilience. The role is particularly suited to someone who can take a broad technology problem, turn it into a practical architecture and guide several teams towards a consistent solution.

• Establish technical direction for distributed and connected technology platforms.
• Create reference architectures for environments combining connected equipment, local processing, enterprise applications and cloud infrastructure.
• Define how information should be collected, processed and transferred across different parts of the technology landscape.
• Develop reusable technical approaches for connectivity, integration, APIs, data exchange and platform interaction.
• Translate wider technology strategy into architecture decisions that can be applied by delivery teams.
• Review proposed technologies and provide recommendations on platform selection, implementation approaches and architectural trade offs.
• Identify technical weaknesses and operational risks affecting availability, security, scalability and resilience.
• Work with engineering leads and solution teams during delivery to ensure that architectural decisions remain consistent as solutions evolve.
• Coordinate technical dependencies between platforms and resolve situations where different teams have competing architectural requirements.
• Contribute to technology governance by documenting key decisions, technical principles and recommended implementation approaches.

• Extensive experience in enterprise technology architecture, solution design or distributed platform architecture.
• Demonstrable background designing environments involving connected systems, distributed processing or industrial and enterprise technology platforms.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, networking, APIs, distributed systems and modern data platforms.
• Experience connecting physical or local technology environments with central enterprise and cloud services.
• Good understanding of information security, operational resilience, technical controls and technology risk.
• Experience working in a large organisation with complex technology dependencies and multiple delivery teams.
• Familiarity with architecture governance, technical standards and enterprise architecture practices.
• Ability to move comfortably between high level technology strategy and detailed solution decisions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical subjects to architects, engineers, delivery managers and business stakeholders.
• Experience from banking, financial services or another highly regulated environment is advantageous.
