Overview

Join a long-term engineering engagement within the insurance sector, working on established IBM mainframe applications that support critical business processes. You will take responsibility for maintaining and extending COBOL-based systems while helping deliver new functional and technical requirements.The role combines hands-on development with system analysis, troubleshooting, testing, and collaboration across technical and business teams. It is particularly suited to an experienced mainframe specialist who is comfortable working with complex legacy environments and highly business-critical applications.

Responsibilities

  • You will analyse existing COBOL applications, implement enhancements, and maintain core systems running on IBM mainframe infrastructure. Your work will include translating business requirements into technical solutions and investigating issues affecting application functionality or performance.
  • The engagement will also involve developing and maintaining both batch and online processing, supporting testing and release activities, and assisting with production deployments. You will work closely with business stakeholders, architects, and other development teams while keeping technical documentation up to date.

Requirements

  • Several years of professional experience developing COBOL applications on IBM Mainframe environments
  • Strong experience working with insurance-related systems and business processes
  • Practical knowledge of insurance domains such as policy administration, claims, benefits, life insurance, or health insurance
  • Strong knowledge of z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and JCL
  • Extensive experience with DB2 and database application development
  • Experience with CICS and mainframe batch processing
  • Proven ability to analyse, maintain, and enhance large legacy application landscapes
  • Experience troubleshooting production issues and improving application performance
  • Structured and independent approach to development and problem solving
